Some heater symptoms require the unit to remain off until a licensed gas technician inspects it. Repeated resets are not a repair and can hide a serious operating condition.

Technical guidance
Do not operate switches or attempt repeated ignition. Leave the immediate area, avoid ignition sources, and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location when the odour is strong or persistent.
Shut the heater off. These signs can point to blocked burners, poor combustion, venting problems, delayed ignition, or heat damage.
Do not keep resetting the control. Restricted water flow, bypass faults, scale, blocked heat transfer, combustion issues, or a failed safety circuit require testing.
Turn the heater off and keep the pool circulation system under observation. A leaking exchanger, header, gasket, drain, or piping connection needs identification before continued operation.
Do not operate a heater with disconnected, corroded, obstructed, or improperly installed venting. Indoor and enclosed installations require equipment-specific venting and combustion-air provisions.
